NMB the GOAT leaves Bowman rival in the dust

Move over, football and athletics, the goats had their moment on Saturday.

NMB’s ‘NMB the GOAT’ stole the show at the NMB unGOATable Race, sprinting past a rival from Bowman to claim victory in the headline Goat Race held in Dar es Salaam.

The September 19 contest was not just about bragging rights. It was also about raising Sh200 million to help 150 young Tanzanians facing financial challenges pursue higher education next year.

NMB joined the Goat Races for the first time this year as one of the major sponsors, adding its own contender to the unusual sporting spectacle that brings together business, entertainment and charity.

For NMB Head of Specialised Banking Services Getrude Mallya, the victory made the bank’s debut even more memorable.

“Beyond the excitement of the win, our participation reflects NMB’s commitment to supporting initiatives that open opportunities for young Tanzanians,” she said.

The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay, which has turned the unusual races into an annual fundraising platform for education.

Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay president Paul Muhato said 350 students had benefited since the club began officially managing the races in 2018.

This year, the club is targeting another 150 students, with the Sh200 million fundraising goal expected to help them pursue higher education in 2027.

So, while ‘NMB the GOAT’ may have taken home the bragging rights on the track, the bigger prize from Saturday’s races could be the education opportunities created for the next generation.
