Students have been urged to cultivate patriotism and uphold their civic responsibilities as a way of promoting human rights, respect for the rule of law, and good governance.
The call was made by the Chief Investigation Officer at the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRAGG), Ms Florence Chaki, while addressing students from Dar es Salaam Secondary School who visited the Commission's pavilion during the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) at the Julius Nyerere Grounds on July 9, 2026.
Ms Chaki said rights and responsibilities are inseparable, stressing that young people must understand their obligations to their families, schools and the nation if they are to effectively safeguard and exercise their rights through lawful and appropriate channels.
She noted that patriotism, integrity, accountability and respect for the rule of law are fundamental values that underpin the protection of human rights and the promotion of good governance.
"A child who understands his or her responsibilities grows into a responsible citizen who respects the law and contributes to the country's development," she said.
Ms Chaki encouraged students to become responsible citizens by embracing discipline, respecting national values and actively contributing to the country's social and economic development.
Speaking on behalf of the visiting students, Samira Ismail said the session had deepened their understanding of the close link between patriotism, civic responsibility and the protection of human rights.
She said the students would share the knowledge they had gained with their peers and communities, helping to nurture a generation that values human rights, accountability and ethical conduct.
