The Resident Mines Office in Singida Region, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, has rolled out a training programme for small-scale miners aimed at promoting safe, productive and environmentally responsible mining practices.
The initiative focuses on equipping miners with practical skills in the use of modern mining technologies, occupational health and safety standards, and value addition in mineral processing. It also seeks to strengthen compliance with existing laws and regulations governing mineral trading.
Opening the training session at the Singida Regional Commissioner’s office, Resident Mines Officer, Engineer Sabai Nyansiri, said the government continues to create a supportive environment for small-scale miners to ensure the sector contributes meaningfully to livelihoods and the national economy.
He noted that improving miners’ knowledge and skills is essential in transforming the sector into a reliable driver of inclusive growth, particularly in regions where artisanal and small-scale mining is a major source of income.
The programme also underscores the importance of environmental conservation, urging miners to adopt sustainable practices that minimise degradation while enhancing productivity.
The training forms part of broader efforts by the government and development partners to formalise and strengthen small-scale mining, enabling operators to participate more effectively in the mineral value chain and benefit from Tanzania’s natural resources.
