TPLB cracks down on misconduct: Simba fined, Diarra suspended for three matches

By Victoria Godfrey

The Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) has handed down tough sanctions against clubs, players, and referees following repeated disciplinary breaches in the NBC Premier League, after a meeting on March 26, 2026.

Simba SC was fined TZS 10 million after its supporters threw water bottles at referees as they left the pitch following the team’s 1-1 draw with Pamba Jiji.

TPLB described the incident as a repeat offense, recalling a similar episode on February 25 when Simba fans targeted Dodoma Jiji player William Edgar with water bottles at Jamhuri Stadium, Dodoma.

The sanction is issued under Article 47:1 of the Premier League regulations on club conduct.

TRA United of Tabora was fined TZS 500,000 after its players received more than five yellow cards in their 0-0 draw against Young Africans.

Six players were booked in that match, violating Article 47:10 of the Premier League regulations governing club discipline.

In the Mtibwa Sugar versus Young Africans match, which ended 1-1, Young Africans goalkeeper Djigui Diarra was suspended for three matches and fined TZS 2 million for physically confronting the central referee immediately after the final whistle at Jamhuri Stadium.

Diarra also received an additional TZS 2 million fine for making an obscene gesture raising his middle finger while leaving the field, an act deemed offensive and disrespectful, contrary to Article 41:5(5.5) of the Premier League regulations on player conduct.

TPLB’s disciplinary action extended to referees. Central referee Gilbert Mrina from Kilimanjaro was demoted for failing to take appropriate action against Diarra’s misconduct.

Assistant referee number two, Abdulaaziz Ally from Arusha, was suspended for five match cycles for misinterpreting the rules, after raising an offside flag in the 36th minute during Young Africans’ attack before Emmanuel Mwanengo received a pass from Pacome Zouzoua.

These rulings demonstrate TPLB’s firm stance on maintaining discipline and professionalism both on and off the field in the Premier League.
