A specialized training program on sports law, contracts, and sector reforms officially began today at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium hall and will run until February 25.
Organized by the Malya College of Sports Development, the initiative aims to equip sports professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to enhance the growth, governance, and management of Tanzania’s rapidly expanding sports sector.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, the college’s Deputy Principal and course coordinator, Salum Mtumbuka, said preparations for the training have been completed and encouraged athletes, sports officials, and stakeholders to take advantage of the remaining opportunity to register.
“This course is designed to strengthen understanding of legal issues, contracts, and ethics in sports. With the sector attracting significant investment and growing quickly, professionalism, transparency, and effective oversight are more important than ever,” Mtumbuka explained.
The program will be conducted by a lead instructor from Kenya, working alongside local trainers. It will cover key topics including sports law, contract drafting and management for players, ethics, and dispute resolution in sports.
As of yesterday, 25 participants had already registered and paid their fees, with coordinators expecting more to join before the course officially begins tomorrow.
Mtumbuka emphasized that the training is part of a long-term strategy to build capacity among sports professionals, ensuring they can contribute meaningfully to the development of the sector.
