President Samia hails Taifa Stars despite AFCON exit

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has praised the Taifa Stars for their historic performance at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), after the national team reached the Round of 16 for the first time despite being eliminated from the tournament.

The team bowed out following a narrow 1–0 defeat to hosts Morocco in the last-16 match played on Sunday.

In her message, President Samia described the achievement as a landmark moment for Tanzanian football, attributing the success to thorough preparation, discipline, unity and commitment demonstrated by the players and the technical bench throughout the competition.

She said the Taifa Stars had written a new chapter in the country’s football history and brought pride and joy to millions of Tanzanians.

“On behalf of all Tanzanians, I commend you for the remarkable work you have done and wish you continued success in future competitions,” she said.

President Samia urged the players to build on the momentum by continuing to represent the nation with patriotism, determination and respect in upcoming tournaments.

The Taifa Stars’ AFCON campaign has drawn widespread praise from football stakeholders and fans, who view the performance as a strong foundation for the continued growth and competitiveness of Tanzanian football on the continental stage.
