Finance Minister lauds President Samia for strengthening national tax systems

By The Respondents Reporter

The Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar, has praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her strategic investment in modern tax collection systems, saying the move has significantly strengthened revenue administration and improved efficiency at the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).

Speaking in Arusha on January 5, 2026, during the opening of the mid-year performance review meeting for the 2025/26 financial year, the minister said the investment in advanced digital systems has enabled TRA to consistently exceed its revenue collection targets for 18 consecutive months.

He said the ongoing integration of information and communication technology systems across government institutions is enhancing transparency and accountability, while helping to seal loopholes that have in the past undermined revenue collection.

He called on institutions that are yet to join the integrated platforms to do so, noting that shared access to data is critical for effective tax administration.

Ambassador Omar also commended the stability recorded in revenue collection and emphasized the importance of sustained public tax education.

He said educating taxpayers strengthens voluntary compliance and reinforces citizens’ contribution to national development through timely and fair payment of taxes.
