AFCON 2025: Referee Traoré's bias decisions spark outrage in Tanzania

By Prosper Makene

Tanzania's national football team, Taifa Stars, has been eliminated from the AFCON 2025 tournament after a 1-0 loss to hosts Morocco.

The match, played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, was marked by controversy and complaints about the officiating of Malian referee Boubou Traoré.

Morocco's Brahim Diaz scored the only goal of the match in the 64th minute.

Despite the loss, Taifa Stars put up a good fight and showed plenty of spirit. They created several chances, but were unable to score.

Fans have expressed their disappointment and frustration with the referee's decisions.

"It's unfair! The referee was biased, we can't accept this," said Juma Mussa, a football fan from Dar es Salaam.

"It's a shame, the referee denied Taifa Stars a win," said Asha Hassan, a football fan from Zanzibar. Other fans echoed similar sentiments, with some calling for an investigation into the referee's decisions.

Taifa Stars' coach, Miguel Ángel Gamondi, said he was proud of his team despite their exit from the tournament. "I'm proud of my team, they played a good game and showed team spirit," Gamondi said.

However, many of the football lovers around the continent have urged the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to investigate the match and the referee's decisions so as to shed more light on the controversy surrounding the match and determine if any action is needed.
