Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s national amputee football team, the Tembo Warriors, has named a 15-man squad that will compete in the East and Central Africa Amputee Football Championship (CECAFA) set for Nairobi, Kenya, from September 8 to 14.
Head Coach Ivo Mapunda finalized his selection after weeks of training and a thorough assessment of players who had been shortlisted from the Azam Amputee Football Cup held recently in Dar es Salaam.
Confirming the announcement, the Technical Director of the Tanzania Amputee Football Federation (TAFF), Shaban Msangi, said the team is intensifying preparations ahead of their departure.
“Coach Mapunda has released the final squad, and the players are working hard in training to ensure they are ready for the challenge in Nairobi,” said Msangi.
The team is scheduled to leave Dar es Salaam for Nairobi on September 6.
The squad includes: Ally Juma, Bashra Alombile, Abdulakreem Khalifa, Hassan Vuai, Richard Swai, Emmanuel Mrefu, Ally Cheche, Juma Kidevu, Rojas Vicent, Kassim Mbarouk, Frank Ngairo, Julius Ole Keika, Salim Chambo, Salehe Mwipi, and Modrick Mohammed.
The CECAFA tournament will bring together top teams from the region, giving the Tembo Warriors a platform to showcase their talent and test their competitiveness against regional rivals.
