Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Cosato Chumi, represented Minister Hon. Ambassador Mohamoud Thabit Kombo at the 80th Independence Anniversary celebrations of Vietnam held in Dar es Salaam.
The event also marked 60 years of strong diplomatic and cooperative ties between Tanzania and Vietnam.
Chumi praised Vietnam for achieving 80 years of independence and highlighted the fruitful partnership between the two nations.
He said the celebrations showcase Vietnam’s remarkable social and economic progress, achieved through resilience, hard work, and transformative reforms.
Over the past eight decades, Vietnam has built a stable and robust economy and aims to become a developed nation by 2045.
He emphasized that Tanzania and Vietnam have actively collaborated over the past 60 years in trade, investment, education, health, agriculture, and science and technology development.
Tanzania recognizes and values Vietnam’s historical contributions and the strong ties between the peoples of both countries.
Trade between the two nations continues to grow. Vietnam ranks as Tanzania’s seventh-largest export market, with Tanzanian exports rising from USD 226.6 million in 2020 to USD 314.2 million in 2024—a 38 percent increase over five years.
Vietnam’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Vu Thanh Huyen, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Tanzania.
He stressed the importance of expanding trade, investment, and technological collaboration to drive economic growth for both nations.
Diplomatic relations between Tanzania and Vietnam started in 1965 and have strengthened steadily, fostering both bilateral and international cooperation.
