The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has upheld two parliamentary appeals while dismissing six others, following a special meeting held over the weekend in Dodoma.

A statement signed by INEC’s Director of Elections, Ramadhan Kailima, also confirmed that the Commission accepted two councillorship appeals and rejected three others.

The successful parliamentary appeals include that of Mr. Ezekiel Katabi, the CHAUMMA Party candidate for Muhambwe Constituency, against the Returning Officer for Muhambwe.

INEC also upheld the appeal of Mr. Athuman Issah Henku, Civic United Front (CUF) candidate for Ikungi East Constituency, against Mr. Thomas Mgongo Kitima, the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) candidate.

“As a result, these candidates have been reinstated on the list of parliamentary contenders in their respective constituencies and will continue with election campaign activities,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, six parliamentary appeals were dismissed. They include:

  • Mr. Msowoya Gelard Goodluck, ACT-Wazalendo candidate for Kilombero Constituency, against the Kilombero Returning Officer.

  • Mr. Innocent Siriwa, ADC candidate for Kibamba Constituency, against the Kibamba Returning Officer.

  • Mr. David January Mhanga, CHAUMMA candidate for Mkuranga Constituency, against the Mkuranga Returning Officer.

  • Ms. Christina Mbise, parliamentary candidate for Ubungo Constituency.

  • Mr. Cecil Francis Akili, ACT-Wazalendo candidate for Ndanda Constituency.

  • Mr. Mneke Said, CUF candidate appealing against CCM candidate Nawanda Esmael in Newala Constituency.

On the councillorship front, INEC reinstated two ACT-Wazalendo candidates following successful appeals. Mr. Hussein Bakiri and Mr. Alex Nachingulu were restored as candidates for Mlingula and Mwena wards, respectively, after appealing against decisions by the Ndanda Constituency Returning Officer.
