How Idrissa Star furniture is creating jobs and quality designs in Bahi

By The Respondent Reporter

Idrissa Star, a Dodoma-based carpenter and entrepreneur, has turned his passion for furniture making into a thriving business that is not only supplying quality household items but also creating opportunities for unemployed youth.

Speaking during a routine visit to his workshops, Idrissa, who operates under the brand Idrissa Star Furniture, urged residents of Singida and other regions to embrace locally made furniture that reflects Tanzanian culture and craftsmanship.

“I was born and raised in Bahi, Dodoma, where my main office is located, but I also run a branch in Manyoni, Singida. We also take orders from other regions, and whenever there is demand, we travel to provide the service,” he explained.

Beyond business, Idrissa is committed to social impact. Through his workshops, he provides affordable training for young people interested in carpentry, particularly those struggling with unemployment.

“We don’t charge high fees because our aim is to support one another and lift ourselves from one stage to another. It is about building skills, respect, and working together,” he said.

Since opening his Bahi office in 2019, Idrissa has trained several youths, many of whom were family members, relatives, or community members who viewed him as a brother and mentor. His initiative has enabled them to learn practical skills and become self-reliant.

Idrissa Star Furniture specializes in making a wide range of indoor furniture, including sofas, chairs, tables, beds of all designs, and cabinets.

His products are known for their quality and cultural authenticity, reflecting his belief that Tanzanians should invest in homegrown creativity.
