The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Ambassador Engineer Aisha Amour, has directed the management of the MV Tanga ferry which operates between Pangani and Bweni in Tanga Region to provide her office with daily performance reports by 9:00 a.m.

The directive follows her visit to the area, where she inspected the ferry’s operations after receiving repeated reports of mechanical faults and complaints from the public over poor service delivery.

“I want to receive daily updates on the ferry’s operations by 9:00 a.m. sharp,” Ambassador Amour said. “The report must specify how many trips were made, whether they met the scheduled targets, and if not, why.”

She emphasized that the report should also outline the cause of any faults, the duration of any service interruptions, and the steps taken to resolve them.

Ambassador Amour further instructed the Eastern and Southern Zone Manager of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Agency (TEMESA), Abdulrahman Ameir, to be stationed in Pangani to closely monitor the ferry’s performance until the completion of the Pangani Bridge.

“I am ending the current system,” she declared. “The Tanga Regional Manager must be kept fully informed through the ferry supervisor, while the Zonal Manager will remain on the ground to ensure smooth operations.”

During the same visit, Ambassador Amour inspected the Pangani Bridge construction project and expressed dissatisfaction with its progress.

She urged the contractor, Shandong Luqiao Group, to accelerate the pace of work to meet the December 2025 completion deadline.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the contractor has completed only 69 percent of the project, leaving just a few months to finish the remaining work as stipulated in the contract.

The Pangani Bridge spanning 525 meters with 25 kilometers of connecting roads is being funded jointly by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.
