Tanzania will take part in the Beach Kabaddi World Cup, set to run from September 23 to 29 at Port Dickson Beach in Malaysia.

The nation will be represented by both men’s and women’s teams, who have already begun training. They are scheduled to enter a joint residential camp on September 9 to intensify preparations for the global competition.

Tanzania Kabaddi Sports Association (TKSA) Chairman Abdallah Nyoni said the teams are determined to showcase their potential and make the country proud on the international stage.

“Our focus is on preparing thoroughly so we can perform well and raise Tanzania’s flag high in this world-class tournament,” Nyoni said.

He appealed to sports stakeholders and sponsors to support the teams, noting that resources are needed for training equipment, player allowances, and logistics to ensure smooth preparations.

Tanzania will join 16 men’s teams and 11 women’s teams that have confirmed participation. According to Nyoni, the World Cup is more than just a sporting event it is also an opportunity to promote Tanzania’s culture and tourism through sports diplomacy.

“This is not only about competing but also about telling Tanzania’s story to the world. We want to show our talent and, at the same time, market our country,” he added.

Kabaddi, a contact team sport that has its origins in South Asia, has been gaining popularity in Tanzania over recent years.

The participation of the national teams in the World Cup marks another step in expanding the sport’s visibility and Tanzania’s presence on the global stage.
