PAL Africa Brings STEAM Learning to Life at TAFFA 2025

By Charles Mkoka

The TAFFA 2025 exhibition has taken on a fresh dimension with the participation of Play and Learn Africa (PAL Africa), an organization dedicated to promoting STEAM-tale education for children from the fourth grade and above.

Speaking at the exhibition, Ali Lupatu, a representative of PAL, said the foundation emphasizes hands-on, practical learning through concepts of arts, science, mathematics, engineering, creativity, Sports Science, and more.

“For instance, we have a book titled She Garage, a story about two young female engineers who use their everyday knowledge to create change in their community,” Lupatu explained.

The book illustrates how children’s interest in engineering can grow from simple, everyday experiences related to cars passing through their village.

Beyond reading, the book offers interactive add-on features, including paper clips for folding, coloring activities, and step-by-step instructions to assemble a model car.

“These activities are designed as part of the children’s learning process, helping to develop brain coordination, calmness, creativity, and critical thinking,” Lupatu added.

PAL Africa is also expanding its programs to include robotics, coding, and other STEAM-related concepts, tailored to different age groups and learning abilities.

The Concepts also features sports science for the youngsters, including Basketball, Skateboarding, and Roller Skating

Despite being less than five years old, the initiative has already impacted many, including children with dyslexia, autism, and other learning difficulties.

According to Lupatu, the activities are intentionally fun, engaging, and practical, offering children meaningful alternatives to excessive screen time and video gaming, noting that these habits are widely seen as addictive and harmful to learning and development.

With its innovative approach, PAL Africa is not only inspiring young learners but also addressing broader educational challenges by making STEAM accessible, interactive, and relevant to African children.
