Telecommunications company Yas Tanzania has launched two new 4G towers in Kilimanjaro Region as it expands network capacity and seeks to improve internet access for residents and businesses.
The towers, located in Moshi Municipality and Mwanga District, are expected to improve network quality and reliability, particularly for users of mobile internet and digital services.
Yas Northern Zone Head Robert Sanyagi said the investment was driven by rising demand for reliable connectivity as more Tanzanians use digital platforms for business, education, financial transactions and other daily activities.
“Today, Tanzanians need more than voice services. They need fast and reliable internet for business, education, financial services and other everyday activities. That is why we continue to invest in 4G and 5G technologies to reach more people across the country,” Mr Sanyagi said.
He said Yas would continue expanding its network in urban areas as well as communities that remain underserved, with the aim of enabling more people to participate in the digital economy.
Speaking at the launch, Moshi East Divisional Officer Khalima Idrisa, who represented the Moshi District Commissioner, said the new infrastructure would strengthen communication services and support government efforts to improve access to reliable connectivity.
For residents, better network coverage could also ease challenges associated with mobile financial services and other online transactions.
Kilimanjaro resident Mwanaisha Juma said residents had previously experienced difficulties with communication and mobile money transactions because of unreliable connectivity.
“We used to face major communication challenges, particularly when sending and receiving money. Sometimes transactions would take longer than expected. Things have changed, and many services are now easily accessible online,” she said.
She said improved connectivity would make it easier for residents to access digital services and conduct their daily activities.
Yas said the new towers are part of its wider network investment in the Northern Zone and other parts of Tanzania as the company seeks to provide faster and more reliable connectivity.
