NZega District in Tabora Region is set to host the Uhuru Torch, with development projects worth TZS4.1 billion lined up for inspection, inauguration and foundation stone laying.
Nzega District Commissioner Naitapwaki Tukai said the national symbol would cover 223 kilometres during its tour, visiting projects valued at TZS1.2 billion in Nzega District Council and TZS2.9 billion in Nzega Town Council.
Ms Tukai spoke after receiving the Uhuru Torch from Uyui District Acting Commissioner Pendo Wella, who is also the Tabora District Commissioner.
She said the torch's visit had generated strong public interest, with residents turning out in large numbers along its route and during a vigil held in Nata Ward.
Ms Tukai also praised residents for their continued participation in development activities and their support for local leadership.
“Since I was appointed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan as Nzega District Commissioner four years ago, I had never seen the MPs representing Nzega Rural and Bukene together. Today I have seen them together and I am very pleased,” she said.
The 2026 national Uhuru Torch team leader, Wazo Michael Mwangonda, commended Ms Tukai for his leadership and efforts to oversee development projects in the district.
“Today we entered Nzega District from Uyui, and from the first project to the last, everything has been good. Tomorrow we will be in Nzega Town, and I hear things are also going well. Congratulations, our district commissioner,” he said.
He urged Nzega residents to continue supporting Ms Tukai, saying the district commissioner represents President Samia Suluhu Hassan in overseeing government activities in the area.
The 2026 Uhuru Torch runner from Manyara Region, Inyasi Amsi, also praised Ms Tukai for her leadership and cooperation with residents.
“Indeed, Ms DC, you make us from Manyara proud. People here in Nzega like you because of the way you lead and supervise them,” Mr Amsi said.
