A truck driver was shot dead at a fuel station in Morogoro early Wednesday after an alleged dispute with a security guard over payment for guarding his vehicle, police have said.
The victim, Feisal Yaqoob Ally, 43, a resident of Mbagala, Dar es Salaam, was allegedly shot in the head by Hussein Idd Hussein, 37, a security guard employed by Ruge Security Company.
Morogoro Regional Police Commander Andrew Kantimbo said the incident occurred at about 6am on September 9, 2026, at the Puma fuel station in Viwandani Street, Kihonda Ward, Morogoro Municipality.
According to Commander Kantimbo, Mr Ally was driving a Scania truck, registration number T 680 EAY, from Dar es Salaam to Mwanza when he stopped at the fuel station.
He parked the truck and went to a nearby mosque for morning prayers.
Police allege that when the driver returned from the mosque and headed back to his vehicle, the security guard demanded Sh15,000 as payment for guarding the truck.
The driver reportedly declined to pay and boarded the truck, apparently intending to continue his journey.
It was then, police allege, that the guard fired a shot from his firearm, striking Mr Ally in the head and killing him at the scene.
The suspect was arrested and is being held by police as investigations into the incident continue.
Seven arrested over land officer's killing
Meanwhile, police in Morogoro are holding seven suspects in connection with the killing of Zakaria Rashid Malika, 57, a land officer who lived in Kibaoni, Kilombero District.
Mr Malika was killed on July 19, 2026, at Kapolo CCM Village in Kibaoni Ward, Ifakara Division, Kilombero District.
Police said the victim was attacked at his home by unknown assailants who allegedly used a sharp object to inflict injuries on his body, resulting in his death.
Commander Kantimbo said police appealed to members of the public on July 20 to provide information that could help identify and arrest those responsible.
He said investigations, conducted with the cooperation of members of the public, subsequently led to the arrest of seven suspects at different times and locations.
“After receiving information about the incident, police made efforts to track down the suspects in cooperation with citizens. Seven people were arrested on suspicion of planning and participating in the killing,” Commander Kantimbo said.
The suspects will be taken to court after preliminary investigations are completed, he said.
Commander Kantimbo also urged private security companies to ensure that guards are properly trained and understand the laws, regulations and procedures governing the use of firearms.
He said adherence to firearms rules was critical in preventing incidents that could result in loss of life.
Police also appealed to the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing information that could help prevent and investigate crimes.
