Tanzania’s national netball team, Taifa Queens, will enter camp at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) on Friday as the side steps up preparations for the African qualifiers for the Netball World Cup.
The qualifiers will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from September 19 to 26, with Taifa Queens scheduled to travel to the Kenyan capital on September 18.
Tanzania Netball Association (CHANETA) Secretary General Rahma Kilimba said all arrangements for the training camp had been completed, with players expected to report to camp on Thursday ahead of the start of intensive preparations.
She said the association had also completed arrangements to secure clearance for players employed by different institutions to enable them to join the national team.
“The preparations for the camp have been completed. We are now focused on bringing the players together and building team cohesion,” Ms Kilimba said.
She said having the players report to camp on time would allow the technical bench to implement its training programme without disruption and give the squad sufficient time to develop coordination ahead of the tournament.
The camp will provide the technical team with an opportunity to assess the players’ fitness, sharpen tactical combinations and strengthen understanding among the squad before the team travels to Kenya.
With the qualifiers offering a route to the global tournament, Taifa Queens will be looking to use the final weeks of preparation to build a competitive side capable of challenging for one of the available World Cup slots.
CHANETA said the focus would now shift to ensuring the team makes the most of its time in camp before departing for Nairobi.
