BARIADI: Simiyu Regional Commissioner Said Mohamed Mtanda has been installed as a traditional Sukuma chief and bestowed with the name Ndaturu Masanja, in a ceremony that celebrated the region’s cultural heritage.
The name Ndaturu Masanja, according to Sukuma tradition, describes a leader who brings people together and promotes unity.
Mr Mtanda was formally installed during a ceremony organised by the Union of Traditional Healers in Simiyu Region at the grounds of Bariadi Alliance Primary School in Bariadi District.
The ceremony brought together traditional leaders, traditional medicine practitioners and members of the community to mark Mr Mtanda’s recognition in accordance with Sukuma customs.
The installation underscores the role of traditional institutions in preserving cultural identity and promoting social cohesion while complementing efforts to strengthen unity among communities in the region.
