OTR moves to strengthen service quality with ISO 9001 preparations

The Office of the Treasury Registrar (OTR) has embarked on measures to improve efficiency and service delivery through the implementation of a Quality Management System (QMS), paving the way for the institution to attain the internationally recognised ISO 9001:2015 certification.

The move is aimed at strengthening OTR’s internal systems, standardising work processes and ensuring that services provided to stakeholders meet internationally recognised quality standards.

The latest step involved training OTR staff on QMS in Dar es Salaam on Friday, September 4, 2026. The training was conducted by Amaxon as part of the institution’s preparations to establish and implement the quality management system.

Opening the training on behalf of the Treasury Registrar, Director of Performance Management of Commercial Institutions, Ms Lightness Mauki, said adopting QMS would enable OTR to improve its operations and deliver more efficient services.

“We want to be internationally recognised as an institution that adheres to international quality standards in service delivery,” Ms Mauki said.

She said attaining ISO 9001:2015 certification would require commitment from all employees, particularly in ensuring that established procedures are consistently followed, monitored and evaluated.

Ms Mauki added that quality management should not be viewed as the responsibility of a few employees, but as an institutional commitment involving all staff and departments.

The staff training followed a week-long capacity-building programme for QMS Champions selected from OTR’s departments and units.

The champions were trained on the application of quality management principles in their daily operations, including internal auditing of work processes and systems.

They are expected to serve as key drivers of the QMS implementation by creating awareness among colleagues, supporting compliance with established procedures and helping identify areas requiring improvement.

The initiative underscores OTR’s efforts to strengthen institutional accountability and performance while improving the quality and consistency of services provided to stakeholders.

By aligning its operations with ISO 9001:2015 standards, OTR seeks to establish a more systematic approach to managing its processes, measuring performance and pursuing continuous improvement.
