President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi has doubled the financial incentive for Zanzibar clubs competing in continental football, raising the reward for each CAF victory to Sh10 million.
The new incentive, announced on Friday, September 4, 2026, increases the previous bonus of Sh5 million and is intended to motivate Zanzibar’s clubs to improve their performances in African competitions.
President Mwinyi also announced a Sh1 million bonus for every goal scored by either Zanzibar club in its CAF matches.
He said the incentives were part of the government’s broader efforts to promote sports development and motivate local clubs to compete more effectively in regional and international competitions.
“The government will continue to support sports development and provide motivation to ensure Zanzibar performs well in national and international competitions,” Dr Mwinyi said.
The announcement comes as two Zanzibar clubs represent the islands in CAF competitions this season.
KVZ are competing in the CAF Champions League and were scheduled to face Libya’s Al Swehly on Friday.
In the CAF Confederation Cup, KMKM are representing Zanzibar and are set to host Libyan side Al Ahli Tripoli on Saturday, September 5, at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.
Dr Mwinyi said improved performances by Zanzibar clubs would not only benefit the teams but also raise the islands’ profile in African football.
The increased incentives are expected to give the clubs an additional financial and motivational boost as they seek to make deeper runs in continental competitions.
