Tanzania has begun preparations to assemble its national Kabaddi team for the 2026 Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship in India, with players across the country summoned to a meeting ahead of the selection process.
The Tanzania Kabaddi Sports Association (TKSA) has scheduled the meeting for Saturday, September 19, at 9am at Mwembe Yanga grounds in Dar es Salaam.
The meeting is expected to bring together players interested in making the national team and will focus on preparations, eligibility and the selection process for the squad that will represent Tanzania at the international championship.
TKSA Head of Training and Coaching Joseph Isaya Mlotwa Lusinde said the meeting was an important first step towards identifying players who will compete for places in the national team.
"This meeting targets all Kabaddi players in Tanzania who intend to participate in the process of forming the national team," Mr Lusinde said.
He urged all interested players to attend the meeting on time, saying their participation was important as the association moves towards selecting and preparing the national squad.
Mr Lusinde also appealed to players who receive the invitation to pass the information to their colleagues to ensure that no eligible player misses the opportunity to participate in the selection process.
The preparations come as Tanzania seeks to field a national team at the 2026 Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship in India, where the country will look to showcase its growing presence in the sport on the international stage.
The meeting will therefore serve as a key starting point for the process of identifying and preparing players who could earn a place in Tanzania's national squad.
