The Medical Association of Tanzania (MAT) has called for calm and due process as police investigate an incident involving specialist physician Dr Conrad Agonza Kahyoza in Dar es Salaam.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, MAT said it had received reports concerning Dr Agonza, an internal medicine specialist at Muhimbili National Hospital-Mloganzila, and a police officer identified as Sgt F.8886.
The association said its leadership subsequently engaged the Tanzania Police Force, including Dar es Salaam Regional Police Commander SACP Murilo, to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to MAT, police investigations were ongoing, with statements being recorded at Oysterbay Police Station.
MAT said police had informed the association that Dr Agonza sustained injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The association urged all parties to allow the investigative and legal processes to run their course, stressing the importance of respecting the rights and dignity of those involved.
“MAT continues to follow this matter closely and will provide cooperation where necessary to the relevant authorities,” the association said.
MAT also expressed solidarity with Dr Agonza and said it would continue monitoring developments and provide further information when appropriate.
The association’s call comes as police investigations remain underway, with the full circumstances surrounding the incident yet to be established.
MAT said calm and cooperation among all parties would be important as authorities work to establish what transpired.
