BoT, TDB seek stronger financing links to unlock investment

The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) and the Trade and Development Bank (TDB) are exploring closer cooperation to expand financing for investment and economic activities, as Tanzania seeks to mobilise more capital to support growth.

The discussions between BoT Governor Emmanuel Tutuba and TDB President and Chief Executive Officer Admassu Tadesse focused on investment opportunities and areas where the two institutions can work together to improve access to finance.

The engagement is significant for businesses and investors because access to affordable and adequate capital remains a key factor in turning investment opportunities into actual projects and jobs.

The two institutions also examined ways of strengthening cooperation between TDB, BoT and other financial institutions in Tanzania to increase the flow of funds into productive sectors of the economy.

Such collaboration could provide additional financing channels for investors while strengthening the capacity of financial institutions to support projects with longer-term development needs.

Mr Tutuba thanked TDB for presenting areas of mutual interest, saying the discussions had created a basis for further assessment of potential areas of cooperation.

He said continued engagement could contribute to strengthening the financial sector and supporting wider economic development.

The meeting also underlined the central bank’s efforts to deepen cooperation with regional financial institutions as Tanzania works to attract investment, improve access to capital and promote sustainable economic growth.

The talks were held on September 11, 2026, in a hybrid format. Governor Tutuba and Deputy Governor Dr Rahma Mahfoudh participated virtually, while Deputy Governor Dr Yamungu Kayandabila, other BoT officials and the TDB delegation attended the meeting in person at BoT offices in Dar es Salaam.
