President Samia Suluhu Hassan has challenged newly sworn-in Vice President Deogratius John Ndejembi to serve Tanzanians with patriotism, integrity, diligence and accountability, stressing that public office is a responsibility rather than a privilege.
Speaking shortly after witnessing Mr Ndejembi take the oath of office at State House, Chamwino, Dodoma, on Saturday, August 29, 2026, President Samia said the Vice President’s office carries a critical responsibility in promoting national unity, overseeing government operations and safeguarding the interests of Tanzanians.
“A position is not a kingdom; it is a responsibility. The responsibility you have been entrusted with is to serve Tanzanians,” she said.
President Samia said Mr Ndejembi’s experience in various government positions, coupled with his ability to learn, follow up on assignments and effectively supervise responsibilities entrusted to him, had provided a strong foundation for his new role.
She urged him to work closely with other government leaders to strengthen unity, solidarity, cooperation and stability, saying effective delivery of public services requires coordination and shared responsibility across government.
The President said Tanzanians’ expectations for development could only be met through disciplined leadership, cooperation and a strong focus on results.
She linked the Vice President’s responsibilities to the broader implementation of the CCM Election Manifesto and the National Development Vision 2050, saying both require leaders who can translate government plans into tangible results for citizens.
President Samia also commended the CCM Central Committee and National Executive Council for endorsing Mr Ndejembi’s nomination, saying his experience, capabilities and leadership qualities were among the factors considered in the decision.
She further encouraged the new Vice President to use his energy and experience in serving the nation while continuing to learn and grow in his new responsibilities.
Mr Ndejembi was sworn in as Vice President after being nominated by CCM and subsequently approved by the National Assembly.
The swearing-in ceremony formalised his assumption of one of the country’s highest constitutional offices and places him at the centre of the Government’s efforts to implement its development agenda and respond to citizens’ priorities.
