PBPA staff urged to embrace sports for better health

The Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) has urged its employees to make physical exercise part of their routine, citing its role in improving health, strengthening teamwork and reducing the effects of prolonged sitting at work.

PBPA Petroleum Operations Director Bruno Tarimo made the call on Saturday, August 29, 2026, during a staff sports bonanza held at the Tanzanite Hub grounds in Mikocheni, Dar es Salaam.

Mr Tarimo said employees spend much of their working hours in offices, making regular physical activity important for maintaining their wellbeing.

“We spend a lot of time carrying out our duties in offices. When we get opportunities like this to come together and exercise, we improve our health while also encouraging one another to continue exercising even on our own,” he said.

He said sports activities also provide an opportunity for employees to interact outside their routine duties, helping to build stronger working relationships and cooperation.

“These gatherings give employees an opportunity to know each other better beyond their daily responsibilities. That helps strengthen relationships and the cooperation needed to effectively deliver the Agency’s responsibilities,” he said.

The bonanza brought together PBPA employees in a variety of sporting and recreational activities, including football, netball, volleyball, basketball, tug-of-war, sack races, egg-and-spoon races, bao, draughts, chess, cards and pool.

PBPA Sports Chairman and Fuel Quality Officer Mosses Nyaronga said the strong turnout demonstrated employees’ interest in sports and the need for the institution to continue supporting such activities.

“We thank our leaders for allowing us to organise this bonanza and for supporting the initiative. Our aim is to promote good health through sports, and we are pleased with the strong participation by employees,” Mr Nyaronga said.

He called for sports activities to be organised regularly, suggesting that staff bonanzas could be held every one or two months.

Mr Nyaronga said regular sporting activities would not only encourage employees to remain physically active but also provide an avenue for strengthening teamwork and workplace relations.
