Tanzania and Rwanda have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and regional integration following talks between their foreign ministers in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.
Tanzania's Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, met Rwanda's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Olivier Nduhungirehe, to discuss ways of deepening diplomatic and development cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
The ministers also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration in promoting stability, economic integration and sustainable development within the East African Community and beyond.
A key item on the agenda was the Rusumo Hydropower Project, a trilateral initiative involving Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.
The project is expected to enhance regional electricity supply while supporting cross-border economic growth and energy security.
The meeting was attended by Tanzania's Ambassador to Rwanda, Dr Habib Kambanga, the Director of the Africa Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Ali Bujiku, Assistant Director Julieth Muchunguzi, and Rwanda's Ambassador to Tanzania, General Patrick Nyamvumba.
Ambassador Nduhungirehe arrived in Tanzania on July 25 for a working visit, reflecting the two countries' continued engagement in expanding cooperation on shared priorities and strengthening regional partnerships.
