Tanzania, Oman digital partnership to transform government records management

Tanzania is set to improve the management and security of government records following the acquisition of modern digital infrastructure from the Sultanate of Oman, a move expected to strengthen efficiency, transparency and access to public information.

The support includes Data Centre equipment, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities and upgraded network infrastructure provided by Oman’s National Records and Archives Authority, aimed at accelerating the digitisation of government records and archives.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Minister of State in the President’s Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance, Ridhiwani Jakaya Kikwete, said the partnership reflects the growing cooperation between Tanzania and Oman in advancing good governance through technology.

He said the new facilities will enhance the protection of government information, improve the availability of official documents, strengthen preservation of important national records and support faster delivery of public services.

“Through this cooperation, Tanzania is building modern systems for managing records and archives using digital technology, which will improve efficiency and accountability across public institutions,” Kikwete said.

The minister noted that the initiative marks another step in strengthening the historic relationship between Tanzania and Oman, particularly in areas that contribute to national development and improved government operations.

The adoption of digital records management is expected to reduce dependence on manual processes, improve data security and enable government institutions to access important documents more easily when needed.

For citizens, the move is expected to contribute to improved public services by ensuring government information is better organised, securely stored and available to support timely decision-making and service delivery.

The handover ceremony brought together officials from both countries, including Oman’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Said Hilal Al-Shidhani, Ambassador Abdallah Kilima from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, as well as leaders and staff from the Department of Records and Archives Management.
