Tanzania has pledged continued support for reforms within the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), with a focus on strengthening trade, digital transformation and economic cooperation among member countries.
Vice President Ambassador Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi made the commitment during talks with OACPS Secretary-General Moussa Saleh Batraki in Arusha, where the two leaders discussed ways of making the organisation more effective in addressing challenges facing its members.
Dr Nchimbi assured the OACPS leadership that Tanzania would continue working with the organisation to support its transformation agenda and ensure it delivers greater value to member states.
He also commended the Secretary-General for advancing reforms aimed at improving institutional integrity, reducing dependency and building a stronger OACPS capable of responding to emerging global challenges.
The talks come as countries continue seeking stronger partnerships to expand trade, attract investment and improve resilience against economic and environmental pressures.
Mr Batraki highlighted OACPS priorities, including boosting trade among member countries, strengthening regional integration and supporting initiatives to address the effects of climate change.
He said the organisation was also prioritising investment in technology, particularly digital transformation, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and improved management of data and information systems.
The OACPS Secretary-General added that the organisation was working to deepen business relations among developing countries while promoting economic empowerment programmes for women.
The engagement is expected to further strengthen Tanzania’s role in international cooperation and create opportunities for collaboration in trade, technology and sustainable development.
The meeting was attended by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union, Jestas Nyamanga, and Acting Director of the Department of Europe and Americas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ellen Maduhu.
