The Tanzania Police Force has arrested 130 suspects in different regions over allegations of planning and coordinating criminal activities aimed at disrupting peace and national security.

The suspects are accused of using private meetings and social media platforms to organise and spread messages allegedly intended to incite violence between June and July this year.

Police Spokesperson Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) David Misime said investigations had uncovered plans involving the preparation, circulation and promotion of content allegedly encouraging people to participate in criminal acts, including attacks against leaders and members of the public.

He said the alleged plans included setting fire to schools, damaging electricity transformers to plunge parts of the country into darkness, destroying and looting public and private property, as well as attacking security personnel to seize weapons.

“These actions were aimed at creating fear, disrupting public order and threatening the safety of citizens,” DCP Misime said.

The police statement comes as authorities continue to strengthen efforts to protect public safety and maintain peace, warning that individuals or groups involved in organising violence will face legal action.

Security authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through official channels, emphasising that maintaining peace requires cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public.
