Msalato International Airport nears completion

By The Respondents Reporter

The construction of Msalato International Airport in Dodoma has entered its final phase, with key infrastructure completed as the government moves closer to commissioning one of its flagship aviation projects.

During an inspection of the site on July 8, Dodoma District Commissioner Jabir Shekimweri said the project had recorded substantial progress since his previous visit, describing the pace of implementation as encouraging.

According to Shekimweri, the airport's runway, taxiways and air traffic control tower have been completed, while work on the passenger terminal building is in its final finishing stage.

"The progress we have witnessed shows the government's commitment to delivering the project on schedule. Compared to our previous inspection, many of the critical components have now been completed," he said.

He called on the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), which is overseeing the project under the Ministry of Works, to maintain quality standards through the remaining construction phase and pay greater attention to landscaping, including tree planting and the development of green spaces around the airport.

Shekimweri said the airport is expected to strengthen Dodoma's position as the country's administrative capital by improving air connectivity and supporting trade, investment and tourism.

He added that the facility is also expected to enhance access to central Tanzania and boost economic activity in the region.

The government, he said, will continue monitoring implementation to ensure the project is completed on time and meets the required standards before it is opened for public use.
