Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Ambassador Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, has praised the progress of the Arusha Stadium construction project, saying the development demonstrates Tanzania’s commitment to delivering a successful 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Dr Nchimbi made the remarks after inspecting the ongoing construction works at the stadium, which is among the key facilities being prepared to host matches during the continental football showpiece.
He said he was impressed with the pace of implementation, noting that the project reflects the government’s determination to develop modern sports infrastructure capable of meeting international standards.
“The progress being made is a clear indication of Tanzania’s readiness to host AFCON 2027 and showcase its ability to successfully organise major international sporting events,” Dr Nchimbi said.
He added that investment in sports facilities is part of fulfilling President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan’s commitment to ensuring Tanzania is fully prepared to host the tournament alongside Kenya and Uganda.
The Vice President commended President Samia for continuing to provide financial support that has enabled the stadium project to move forward and remain on track for completion.
He also recognised the efforts of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, the Arusha Regional Administration, contractors and project consultants for their role in ensuring effective supervision and implementation of the project.
Dr Nchimbi directed relevant authorities to closely monitor the completion of all supporting infrastructure, particularly roads connecting to the stadium, in line with President Samia’s directive.
He emphasised that completing key infrastructure projects before the start of AFCON 2027 will be critical to ensuring smooth operations, improving the experience of fans and visitors, and strengthening Tanzania’s position as a capable host of major international sporting events.
Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda are scheduled to co-host AFCON 2027, a historic edition that will bring Africa’s premier football competition to the East African region for the first time.
