Prime Minister Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba has alleged that some individuals are receiving funding from outside Tanzania to recruit young people into violent activities, saying the government will take firm action against anyone found to be endangering national security.
Addressing a public rally at Sokoine Grounds in Mugumu, Serengeti District, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Dr. Nchemba claimed that those behind the alleged network were enriching themselves financially while using Tanzanian youth to carry out acts of violence.
"They are making business out of the lives of Tanzanians, and you expect us to look the other way?" he told the crowd.
The Prime Minister said security agencies had arrested several suspects allegedly linked to the network. According to him, some of those arrested confessed to receiving between Sh3 million and Sh5 million a month to mobilise young people to engage in violent acts.
He further alleged that one suspect from southern Tanzania had been paid Sh5 million to manufacture improvised explosive devices and was promised Sh500 million if young people were killed.
"Why would you side with people who wish this country harm? Every young person should reject being used. Do not allow anyone to profit from your life," he said.
Dr. Nchemba urged young Tanzanians to resist attempts by individuals seeking to exploit them for criminal purposes, saying safeguarding peace, stability and national unity was a shared responsibility.
He said the government would continue enforcing the law against anyone found to be involved in activities that threaten the country's security.
The allegations made by the Prime Minister have not been independently verified, and no evidence was presented publicly during the address to support the claims.
