The Mining Commission has released indicative prices for gold, silver and copper for August 24, 2026, providing a reference point for mineral traders, buyers and other players in Tanzania’s mining sector.
According to the commission’s latest price schedule, the international gold price stood at US$4,619.40 per troy ounce, equivalent to TZS394,566.73 per gram.
The indicative mineral market price for gold was set at TZS355,110.05 per gram, while the buying centre price stood at TZS347,218.72 per gram.
The figures show a gap between international market prices and prices applicable within Tanzania, reflecting factors associated with local mineral trading and the pricing framework used by buying centres.
For silver, the international market price was listed at US$69.51 per troy ounce, equivalent to TZS5,937.21 per gram.
The commission placed the indicative mineral market price for silver at TZS5,343.49 per gram, with the buying centre price at TZS5,224.74 per gram.
Meanwhile, copper was quoted at US$6.57 per pound on the international market. The Mining Commission’s schedule placed the corresponding world market figure at TZS38.48 per gram, with the mineral market price at TZS34.63 per gram and the buying centre price at TZS33.86 per gram.
The publication of indicative prices is important for improving transparency in mineral trading, particularly by providing market participants with reference prices when negotiating transactions.
For small-scale miners and mineral dealers, such price information can help them assess prevailing market conditions and make more informed decisions when selling their production.
The latest figures also come as Tanzania continues efforts to strengthen value addition, formalise mineral trading and ensure that the country derives greater economic benefits from its mineral resources.
The Mining Commission publishes indicative mineral prices as part of its role in regulating and supporting the orderly development of Tanzania’s mining industry.
