Health Minister Mohamed Mchengerwa has urged government officials in Kilimanjaro Region to set aside personal differences and work collaboratively to ensure the timely delivery of development projects, saying internal disputes undermine public service and delay benefits to citizens.
Speaking during a meeting with regional government and political leaders on Saturday, the third day of his inspection tour as the government's supervisor for Kilimanjaro Region, Mchengerwa said cooperation among public officials is essential for achieving development targets.
"It will be difficult to implement development projects effectively if government officials spend their time fighting each other instead of working together," he said.
The minister cautioned officials against allowing personal conflicts to interfere with their responsibilities, reminding them that public office is a position of trust rather than entitlement.
He said appointments to leadership positions reflect confidence placed in individuals by the appointing authority and should be matched with accountability, professionalism and a commitment to serving the public.
During the tour, Mchengerwa inspected the construction of the TZS 18 billion Moshi Modern Bus Terminal, which will have the capacity to accommodate more than 200 buses and over 600 passengers at a time.
He called for proper maintenance of the facility once completed and urged authorities to develop a sustainable management model that will protect the investment and generate revenue to offset operational costs.
"The government has invested significant public resources in this project. We must ensure it is well managed, properly maintained and able to recover part of its investment through efficient operations," he said.
He also directed regional leaders to oversee the allocation of business spaces at the terminal transparently to prevent favouritism and ensure equal opportunities for service providers.
Mchengerwa later visited the Majengo Sports Stadium project in Moshi Municipality, describing sports infrastructure as an important investment that promotes youth development, recreation and local economic activity.
He said the stadium would enable football fans in Moshi and the wider Kilimanjaro Region to watch Premier League matches involving clubs such as Simba SC and Young Africans SC without travelling to other regions.
"Sports are an important source of soft power for any nation. This facility will bring major football matches closer to the people of Moshi and Kilimanjaro," he said.
During the visit, Moshi Urban Member of Parliament Ibrahim Shayo handed over two buses, an ambulance and a hearse to support public services in the constituency.
Mchengerwa commended the legislator for complementing government efforts to strengthen healthcare services and improve access to essential transport for patients and the community.
