The Tanzania Shito-Ryu Karate Federation (TSKF) has called on karatekas from Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar to intensify their preparations ahead of the Inter-Region Karate Tournament scheduled for June 28 in Iringa.

TSKF Secretary General Jerome Mhagama said athletes must combine technical readiness with strong discipline in order to raise the level of competition and support the identification of new talent for national team development.

Speaking on the upcoming championship, Mhagama said the federation is working closely with organisers in Iringa to ensure the event is conducted in a professional, orderly, and competitive environment in line with established sporting regulations.

He said the tournament will bring together athletes from different regions competing in both Kumite and Kata categories, providing a key platform for coaches and technical experts to assess emerging talent across various age groups.

He added that the competition is not only aimed at determining regional superiority but also at strengthening the national talent pipeline through consistent exposure to structured and competitive bouts.

According to Mhagama, the event forms part of the federation’s official calendar and plays an important role in developing the sport by nurturing young athletes while also sharpening the skills of experienced karatekas.

He noted that preparations are progressing well, with expectations that each region will present well-prepared teams, a factor he said will help raise the overall standard and intensity of this year’s tournament.

Mhagama further emphasized that discipline, respect for rules, and proper conduct remain central values for all participants, both on and off the mat.

He also called on stakeholders in the sports sector to support the successful organisation of the event, saying such collaboration is essential for the continued growth and competitiveness of karate in Tanzania.

The Inter-Region Tournament is expected to attract participants from across the country and serve as an important stage for talent identification and the long-term development of martial arts in Tanzania.
