The Prime Minister of Tanzania, Mwigulu Nchemba, has directed the Ministry of Works through the TANROADS to urgently secure a contractor for the construction of the Nyololo–Mtwango road in Mufindi District, Iringa Region.
The directive requires that a contractor be identified within two weeks to implement the 20-kilometre road project to tarmac standards, in a move aimed at boosting economic activities for residents in the area.
Dr Nchemba issued the instruction on May 2, 2026, while addressing wananchi in Mufindi, emphasizing that the project must commence immediately as earlier promised by President Samia Suluhu Hassan during her visit to the area.
He stressed that fulfilling the President’s commitment is a priority, urging responsible authorities to expedite all procurement procedures without delay to ensure construction begins on time.
In a related development, the Prime Minister also instructed that advance payment arrangements be processed for the Mafinga–Mgololo road project, which spans 81 kilometres.
He noted that the road is vital for supporting economic activities in Iringa Region and should be implemented without further delays.
Responding to the directive, Deputy Minister for Works, Godfrey Kasekenya, confirmed that the ministry has received the instructions and pledged to act swiftly to ensure immediate implementation.
The meeting in Mufindi formed part of the Prime Minister’s ongoing nationwide tour aimed at engaging with citizens, listening to their concerns, and addressing development challenges in a timely manner.
