The Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism is finalising preparations for its budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, which will be presented in Parliament during the ongoing budget session in Dodoma.
The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Ashatu Kijaji (MP), chaired a high-level internal meeting to review and align the Ministry’s priorities ahead of the budget presentation.
The budget will cover planned revenue and expenditure for the Ministry and all its institutions.
Dr. Kijaji said the upcoming budget must strongly reflect the needs of citizens and respond to their expectations, stressing that public-centered planning remains key in strengthening service delivery and national development outcomes.
She said the Ministry must ensure that its financial plans translate into real benefits for ordinary citizens, especially those depending on tourism, wildlife, forestry, and other natural resources for their livelihoods.
“It is important to fully understand the needs of our citizens and ensure that our planning directly responds to those needs. The budget we present must clearly show how it improves their lives,” she said.
She directed all departments, units, and agencies under the Ministry to present three key achievements they have delivered in the 2025/2026 financial year, as well as outline three priority areas for 2026/2027 that will directly benefit citizens and strengthen the sector’s contribution to the economy.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Hassan Abbas, said the budget preparation process is aimed at strengthening strategies for conservation, wildlife protection, and tourism development in order to increase the sector’s contribution to Tanzania’s economic growth.
He noted that the budget has also factored in efforts to increase the number of international visitors through major global and regional events expected to be hosted in Tanzania, including preparations linked to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.
Dr. Abbas added that the Ministry will continue improving conservation systems to ensure sustainable use of natural resources while expanding opportunities for investment and job creation in the tourism value chain.
