Dhow Countries Music Academy has expressed heartfelt appreciation to its development partners and supporters who continue to contribute towards preserving cultural music heritage and advancing music education for future generations.
Speaking about the institution’s ongoing initiatives, the Director of DCMA ,Ms Halda Alkanaan revealed that the academy is currently receiving support from Creation Africa through the Embassy of France in Tanzania and Alliance Française, who are funding the Music Education Museum and Archive project for a period of two years.
According to the Director, the support covers salaries for museum staff, office equipment, workshops, and operational expenses including rent, electricity, and cleaning materials, helping ensure the smooth functioning of the museum and archive facilities.
Despite this important support, DCMA noted that the academy itself still faces significant financial challenges, particularly in covering operational costs such as staff salaries, educational programs, and scholarships for students with musical talent who require financial assistance to continue their studies.
“DCMA needs support from anyone willing to contribute to our mission of training and preserving cultural music for the next generation,” the Director stated.
Over the years, DCMA has become one of East Africa’s leading cultural institutions dedicated to safeguarding traditional music while creating opportunities for young people to study indigenous instruments, music history, and the region’s rich artistic traditions.
Through its newly launched Music Museum and archival initiatives, the academy continues to serve as an important bridge between Africa’s musical past and the emerging generation of artists, researchers, and cultural enthusiasts from around the world.
Arts and cultural stakeholders believe that increased support for DCMA will not only help preserve Africa’s musical identity, but also expand opportunities in education, cultural tourism, and the creative economy in Tanzania and beyond.
