President Mwinyi urges KCB Bank to partner with SMZ to empower youth

President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has called on KCB Tanzania to collaborate with the Ministry of Youth, Employment, and Empowerment to find sustainable ways to support young people, particularly in accessing loans that enable them to start their own businesses.

Dr. Mwinyi made the remarks today, March 5, 2026, during a meeting with KCB Tanzania’s Managing Director, Mr. Cosmas Kimario, and Board Chairman, Ambassador Peter Kallaghe, accompanied by senior officials of the bank at the State House in Zanzibar.

The President also advised KCB Tanzania to explore potential partnerships with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar to provide financing for large-scale development projects.

He noted that strategic initiatives, including the construction of ports, airports, and road infrastructure, require significant funding for timely completion, and stressed that KCB should prioritize these matters to support Zanzibar’s development agenda.

Dr. Mwinyi assured the bank that the government has established a robust repayment plan through a dedicated loan account used exclusively for implementing development projects.

Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Cosmas Kimario highlighted that Zanzibar’s favorable investment climate, ongoing infrastructure development, and focus on the blue economy and tourism sectors are attracting numerous investors.

This, he said, has encouraged KCB Tanzania to increase its capital allocation for Zanzibar, and the bank expressed readiness to cooperate with the Revolutionary Government in this regard.
