The Ministry of Minerals has issued an urgent safety advisory to miners and stakeholders across Tanzania amid ongoing heavy rains.
The alert aims to prevent accidents and protect mining operations from hazards such as pit collapses, flash floods, and damage to mining infrastructure.
The Ministry also warned of potential health threats, including waterborne diseases like cholera, and increased risks of slips and falls due to wet conditions.
Stakeholders have been advised to suspend mining and processing activities in high-risk areas until conditions improve, reinforce drainage systems, install barriers around mine shafts, conduct frequent inspections, and ensure workers use appropriate protective gear.
Hazardous zones should be clearly marked, with access to clean water and sanitation facilities maintained.
The Ministry urged all mining operators and workers to closely monitor weather updates from the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) and immediately report any unusual incidents to regional mineral offices.
“The safety of miners and mining infrastructure is our top priority. All stakeholders must act responsibly during this period,” the Ministry said.
