Ten candidates have been approved to contest the upcoming elections for the leadership of the Dar es Salaam Regional Basketball Association (BD).

The election, scheduled for February 22, aims to select representatives from Dar es Salaam who will take part in the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) General Election on February 28 in Dodoma.

Speaking to The Respondent Online, BD Election Committee Chairman, Okare Emesu, said that campaigning will take place over three days, from February 19 to 21, concluding one day before the main election.

“All candidates underwent interviews and were confirmed to meet the qualifications set out in the association’s constitution and regulations,” Emesu explained.

“We urge members to turn out in large numbers and exercise their constitutional right to elect leaders they trust to effectively manage basketball activities in our region.”he added

He added that the committee is committed to ensuring a transparent, fair, and democratic election, aimed at selecting leaders who will drive the growth and development of basketball in Dar es Salaam.

Several basketball stakeholders have expressed optimism that the election will bring positive changes, including strengthening regional leagues, nurturing young talent, and increasing team participation in national competitions.

This year’s election is expected to be highly competitive, reflecting both the enthusiasm of the candidates and the members’ eagerness to see basketball progress to new heights in the region.
