The Government of Tanzania and GATSBY Africa have held high-level discussions on strengthening the country’s economic transformation, with a focus on boosting industrial competitiveness to achieve the National Vision 2050.

The meeting, held in Dodoma, brought together the Minister of Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), and GATSBY Africa CEO, Mr. Justin Highstead, along with senior officials from both sides.

Ambassador Omar said the talks aimed to align national priorities outlined in Vision 2050 and the Five-Year Development Plan with concrete actions that can drive economic growth.

“Economic reforms, including industrial transformation, financial investment, and human capital development, are central to achieving our national goals. We have jointly explored these areas to identify the best ways to move forward,” he said.

The discussions also covered science and technology, research, and resource mobilization to support priority sectors, with both sides agreeing to explore effective collaboration in implementing these plans.

Ambassador Omar praised GATSBY Africa for its ongoing support, particularly its partnership with the Planning Commission in conducting research that guides national development strategies.

Mr. Highstead said GATSBY Africa has been active in East Africa for over 25 years, focusing on economic reforms and helping transform key sectors of the economy.

He noted that the organization’s current work focuses on forestry and agriculture, while expressing readiness to explore other sectors with high economic potential.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of Finance, Engineer Mshamu Ali Munde (MP), Permanent Secretary of Finance, Dr. Natu El-Maamry Mwamba, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mr. Elijah Mwandumbya, and senior officials from both the Ministry of Finance and GATSBY Africa.
