Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has directed all government institutions to carry out their operations at the nation’s capital, Dodoma, saying the move will bring services closer to Tanzanians.
Speaking during visits to the Ministry of Water and the Ministry of Minerals in Mtumba, the government city, Dr. Mwigulu stressed the importance of centralizing government operations.
“I commend you for relocating to the capital. All government institutions must acknowledge that Dodoma is the headquarters of our government. Services must be delivered here. This is not a temporary camp, and we cannot have two parallel headquarters,” he said.
Dr. Mwigulu also instructed institutions that have completed office buildings in Dodoma to release them if they do not plan to relocate.
“The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office should direct the Secretary-General to form a team to assess all unused government buildings in Dar es Salaam and reassign them to institutions that are ready to move. The government cannot have idle offices while others need space,” he said.
He urged government officials to adopt direct engagement over lengthy correspondence. “Since offices are close, there is no need to exchange letters on implementation matters. Visit the relevant offices and solve issues promptly,” he added.
During his inspection of the Ministry of Water, the Prime Minister urged staff to eliminate water wastage.
“As we implement the new vision, we must proceed with discipline and develop infrastructure that guarantees every Tanzanian access to water,” he said.
At the Ministry of Minerals, Dr. Mwigulu encouraged experts to continue research to fully understand the country’s mineral wealth.
In response, Minister of Water Jumaa Aweso thanked President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for funding the construction of modern offices that provide staff with a conducive working environment.
Minister of Minerals Anthony Mavunde said the new building has enabled the ministry to implement the President’s directive and ensure efficient service delivery, eliminating previous challenges for citizens.
