Tanzania and Brazil vow to strengthen strategic cooperation

By The Respondent Reporter

Tanzania and Brazil have pledged to deepen cooperation in key sectors including health, agriculture, trade, investment, education, and security, aiming to deliver tangible benefits to citizens.

The commitment came during talks between Tanzania’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr. Ngwaru Maghembe, and Brazil’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Gustavo Martins Nogueira, at the Ministry’s offices in Dodoma on January 29, 2026.

The leaders reviewed the 50-year partnership between the two countries and agreed to strengthen it further. They emphasized that expanding cooperation could boost development and create opportunities for Tanzanians and Brazilians alike.

Dr. Maghembe thanked the Brazilian government for supporting the implementation of the Beyond Cotton and Cotton Victoria projects.

He said the initiatives have helped Tanzanian cotton farmers by increasing the value of cotton and its products, while improving overall productivity.

He also called for Brazil’s support in co-financing a project to combat Sickle Cell Disease in Tanzania and requested the finalization of the Maternal and Child Health Project in Zanzibar.

The Deputy Minister further proposed collaboration in talent development and sports management to prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Tanzania will host.

Ambassador Nogueira expressed appreciation for Tanzania’s role as a close partner of Brazil. He acknowledged President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s participation in the G20 summit in Brazil and Tanzania’s involvement in the Second Brazil–Africa Summit on Food Security, Combating Hunger, and Rural Development, attended by then Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango.

Both countries are set to hold political consultations in April 2026 to further advance bilateral relations and explore new avenues for cooperation.
