Morogoro police are hunting Helakumi Kacheri, a resident of Tindegela in Singisa Ward, for allegedly killing his wife with a sharp object.
Regional Police Commander, SACP Alex Mkama, said the incident happened on January 4 around midday while the couple was working on their farm. The suspect reportedly attacked his wife, 27-year-old Sofina Alipisini, inflicting multiple injuries.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect accused his wife of maintaining a close relationship with a former partner,” Commander Mkama said. “He fled the scene immediately after the attack.”
In a separate development, police are investigating two other deaths in Morogoro Region. On January 4, Jese Melumba, 49, from Isago hamlet in Mngeta Ward, Mvomero District, died after allegedly ingesting weed-killing chemicals while working on his farm. Preliminary tests confirmed traces of Banafos, a herbicide, in his system.
Another incident occurred on January 3 in Doma Stendi, Doma Village, where 38-year-old farmer Ally Charles Dagaza was trampled by an elephant while protecting his tomato and chili crops.
Police have called on the public to provide any information that could help locate the suspect in the alleged murder case. Authorities warned that legal action will be taken against anyone found involved.
