Manyara coach Tumaini Mathayo has revealed that rigorous preparation and consistent training were the keys to his team’s triumph in the seventh season of the women’s championships, which concluded yesterday at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Manyara dominated the tournament, securing eight medals, followed by Mjini Magharibi (Zanzibar) with six, while Kilimanjaro claimed third place with three medals.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, Mathayo said his team trains intensively throughout the week, from Monday to Saturday, holding sessions twice daily morning and evening while strictly adhering to a disciplined training schedule.
“The competition was fierce and challenging, which motivated us to push harder. We performed well in long-distance events and learned valuable lessons. Our goal is to improve even further next year and defend our title,” Mathayo stated.
He added that young athletes continue to receive coaching and will be ready for the next season’s competitions.
Manyara runner Hellena Daniel expressed gratitude for a safe and successful tournament. She acknowledged the high level of competition, noting that every team came prepared to win, but Manyara emerged as champions.
Hellena also urged the organizers to allow more recovery time, particularly for long-distance runners, so that participants have the opportunity to rest and improve their performance.
“Providing adequate rest in long-distance events will help athletes perform at their best,” she emphasized.
