Dr. Peter Kisenge, Chief Executive Officer of the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI), has been named the Best CEO of the Year 2025 by Eastern Star Consulting Group in collaboration with CEO Roundtable South Africa.
The award was presented recently at a special ceremony held at the SuperDome in Dar es Salaam, recognizing 100 outstanding African leaders who have made significant contributions to social and economic development across the continent.
The organizers said the awards honor executives who demonstrate innovation, accountability, and measurable positive impact in their daily leadership.
Dr. Kisenge was recognized for his exemplary leadership in prioritizing public interest, particularly in improving cardiac healthcare services in Tanzania. Under his stewardship, JKCI has grown into a key regional center for heart treatment in East and Central Africa.
Being listed among Africa’s top 100 leaders underscores international recognition of Dr. Kisenge’s efforts to manage resources efficiently, expand medical infrastructure, and elevate JKCI’s profile globally.
Under his leadership, the institute has expanded diagnostic and surgical heart services, increasing the number of patients receiving treatment within the country.
New medical services have been introduced, local specialists trained in modern techniques, and research projects implemented to reduce the national burden of cardiovascular diseases.
Patients at JKCI welcomed the award, praising the institute’s high-quality services and accountable leadership.
“I have been receiving treatment here for several months and have witnessed firsthand how prompt and professional the services are. Every staff member is committed and caring. Without a doubt, our CEO deserves this recognition,” said Asha Bakari, a patient.
Joseph Mushi, a long-term patient, said the award is a source of pride not only for JKCI but for Tanzanians benefiting from its services.
“In the past, many had to travel abroad for treatment, but now excellent services are available here. Dr. Kisenge’s leadership has brought remarkable changes,” he said.
The event was attended by leaders from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, and South Africa, where outstanding contributions in various sectors were formally recognized.
