Tanzania wins global honour at Seoul Smart City Prize 2025

Tanzania has earned international acclaim after the Internet Society Tanzania Chapter (ISOC-TZ) won the Seoul Smart City Prize 2025, a recognition of its significant role in advancing public health services through digital innovation. 

The award celebrates the achievements of the SmartJiji Public Health Project, implemented under the Tanzania Digital Inclusion Project (TADIP).

TADIP forms part of the national Digital Tanzania Project, spearheaded by the Government through the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology, with financing from the World Bank. 

The initiative seeks to expand digital access, strengthen innovative public service delivery and promote the use of technology to enhance socioeconomic development.


The award was formally presented by Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who praised ISOC-TZ for introducing citizen-centred digital solutions that are improving the health sector. 

He said the organisation’s work aligns with global efforts to build smarter, more inclusive cities driven by technology and innovation.

Tanzania’s Ambassador to South Korea, Ambassador Togolani Mavura, witnessed the event and congratulated ISOC-TZ, government institutions and partners for their commitment to advancing the country’s digital transformation agenda.

Receiving the award, Dr. Nazarius Nicholas Kirama (PhD), President of ISOC-TZ, said the recognition reflects the strong collaboration between the Government, development partners and civil society in promoting digital services nationwide.


“This award confirms the enormous progress being made through coordinated efforts to ensure digital solutions benefit every citizen,” he said. 

“Through TADIP, as part of the Government-led Digital Tanzania Project supported by the World Bank, we are witnessing tangible improvements in people’s lives. We approach 2026 with greater motivation, new insights and a firm resolve to achieve even more.”he added

The Seoul Smart City Prize is awarded to institutions that demonstrate excellence in using technology, innovation and community engagement to build smart cities. 

Tanzania’s achievement positions the country among emerging global leaders in digital inclusion and smart public service delivery.
